Getting Around

Farms & Wineries

Take a ride down one of our country roads or scenic byways and discover a picture-perfect farm where cows graze on the hillside and barnyard animals are just waiting to greet you. Or, stop by one of our farm stands where you can choose from a variety of local fruits and vegetables.

You can even take a hay wagon ride to an orchard to pick juicy apples right off the tree or to a fun cornfield maze.

We're proud to say that Orange County is the largest onion, squash and garden vegetable producing area in New York State. However, no trip would be complete without stopping by one of our wineries and taking a taste of our excellent local wines.

History & Culture

When Henry Hudson sailed his ship "Half Moon" up the Hudson River in 1609, he was the first in a long list of remarkable travelers to Orange County. These influential women and men determined the early history and culture of America. The Revolutionary War was fought here, commanded by General George Washington. In the 1800's, The Hudson River School of Painters was the first art movement in the United States, and in the 1900's the environmental movement started in Orange County as residents fought to preserve Storm King Mountain. Explore a place so rich in history it has America's first Registered National Historic Landmark.
